I found Elder Stevenson!
Hanging out during the lockdown.
We went dumpster diving during the lockdown for smoothie coupons!!
Hellloooo to the greatest people! I am high and dry and apologize for not emailing last week.. It's kinda hard to do when you are out of power for a few days:) But I was transferred to the good old land of Prairieville with the greatest companion EVER!! Sister Ostergar from Logan,Utah!! She hates needles just as much as I do, we are the peeps that kept Roolee in business, and eat Chickfila in replace of vegetables. So I am very blessed as you can tell!
Being transferred here was not what I expected at all. I had no idea I would be experiencing the things that I have had and come in contact with the people I have either. As you probably all know Louisiana is pretty much destroyed in some parts and my area is one of them. It has been one of the hardest thing in my whole entire life to see these people helpless, homeless, and broke hearted. You drive down the streets and there is just mountains and mountains of sheet rock, furniture, and personal belonging. Sister O and I have gone out all day everyday clearing out so far six houses in five days and surprisingly it's the most satisfying feeling in the whole entire world to be covered from head to toe in sheet rock, nasty water, and sweat. Apologizing now if y'all see any pictures of me... I am disgusting.
But even though its been the hardest thing to see/experience, it has been the one of the greatest spiritual experiences of my life. I have come to find that service is so much more then hauling out loads of garbage or tearing down walls. But I think service is outlined in Mosiah 18: 8-9 perfectly. "willing to bear one another's burdens, that they may be light; yea and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places."
These people are getting a taste and understanding just a small part of what this gospel is all about and they want to know more. They are asking questions and being more acceptable to hearing what we as missionaries have to say. They see something different about us and I get asked on a daily basis why I am so happy that I get to serve people everyday. I am happy because I am doing what the Savior would be doing. I am happy because I can help guide these people to the hope that they are so much in need of. I am happy because I know because I have been given so much, like the hymn says, I too must give.
Please continue to keep Louisiana in your prayers. These people need all the love and hope they can get. Your prayers are felt and much needed. I know that God is truly in the details of our lives and is in the details of the people of Louisiana as well. I love y'all so much! Thank you for all the love and support you have shown for me and the people of Louisiana! Much love y'all xoxoxoxo
