We were able to have another Zone Conference again this week and it was a lot better then last time! I seemed to be not so much of the awkward greeny that I was before and was able to be more of myself and make a lot of new friends! We have some really strong and amazing missionaries in our zone and it was so fun to get to know them all and make new friends!
Our mission president assigned Covington district and Amite district (my favorite district) along with our wards to be apart of a big service project put on by Operation Blessings! Operation blessings is an organization that comes in after natural disasters and partners with the Mormon Helping Hands a lot! There were about ten people there from Operation Blessings and about 100 people there from Mormon Helping Hands so it was pretty amazing to see the help and dedication from our church!
We were assigned to an area called Robert where 2,000 plus homes were flooded just in that parish alone and it was just completely devastating! So many people had lost nearly everything and were just living in tents by their house since it was so dangerous to be inside of them! The home we got assigned to was near a creek and took in 23 feet of water! Yes feet not inches! Before they left they put everything upstairs to keep away from the water and were all able to make it out safely! When they were able to get back a couple days later they came to find their whole house was so full of water to the very top! So full that windows just burst and literally everything they owned was ruined and scattered all over the place! Miss Teresa was so positive for losing everything and just was so grateful for our help that it couldn't help but bring you to tears talking to her!
I never knew that serving could be such a rewarding experience for me personally. Yes, it helps those in need but it has helped me as a person more then anything. I have never felt the Savior's love more for not just myself but for others around me when we are serving those people in need. People are so grateful and loving that you cant help but just love them so much. It has opened many doors and makes has helped so many people see what the LDS church is all about. I know that serving others not only brings others closer to Christ but we come closer to him when we serve as well! As we lose our selves in the service of others I know that is where we will find our own happiness in life!
I hope y'all have an amazing week and try to find ways that you can serve others around you! I can promise you that there is no better feeling in the world! Much love y'all!!
